Children who have had the corona shot can still become infected with the coronavirus. The chance that a child will become seriously ill or end up in hospital due to corona is smaller after vaccination.
How long does the corona shot work?
The vaccination probably offers protection against serious illness due to corona for six months to a year. This may differ per person, for example because a child is taking medication that suppresses the immune system. The immune system may also be less effective if the virus has changed.
Most common side effects
In children from 6 months to 4 years:

In children aged 5 to 17 years:
Pain at the injection site Fatigue Headache Muscle pain Fever Red skin at the injection site Chills
The side effects mainly occur in the first two days after vaccination. And usually go away after 1-2 days.
In very rare cases, inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) or the pericardium (pericarditis) may also occur after vaccination. This rare side effect of the vaccination is mainly seen in young adult men (16-24 years old). There are currently no recorded cases of inflammation of the heart muscle (myocarditis) or of the pericardium (pericarditis) in young children.
