Following advice from the Health Council, the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport has decided that anyone who runs a higher risk of becoming seriously ill due to the corona virus can get a corona shot in the autumn. Healthcare employees with direct patient contact will then also be eligible for the corona shot. The date on which this vaccination round will start is not yet known.
Unlike at the beginning of the pandemic, broad protection has now been built up among the population. This is because many people have been infected, have received a corona shot, or both. A corona shot is therefore not necessary for most people under the age of 60, also because the chance that they will become seriously ill is relatively small.
Who can get the corona shot this fall?
Because the coronavirus can still circulate and protection decreases over time, it remains important to protect people from high-risk groups against becoming seriously ill, hospitalized or dying from corona. That is why they are advised to get the corona shot this fall.
These are:
People aged 60 and over; People aged 18 to 59 who receive an annual invitation for the flu jab; Adults and children from high-risk medical groups.
Healthcare employees who have direct contact with patients will also be offered the corona shot in the autumn.
Pregnant women can go for a corona shot all year round
In addition to an annual corona shot for the above groups, the Health Council advises pregnant women to get a corona shot around the 22nd week of their pregnancy. This protects the mother against serious illness from corona and reduces the risk of premature birth. For pregnant women, the corona shot is available all year round at the GGD.
When does the fall round start?
GGD GHOR Nederland and the GGDs are preparing to carry out the vaccination round this autumn. The aim is to start with the first injections in October. The exact start date will be announced here.
