Until now, the corona shot was available to all children aged 5 to 11 years. The Health Council has adjusted its advice on this: it is no longer necessary for most children to get a corona shot. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport has adopted this advice and has therefore decided that from 23 February 2023 only children with an increased risk of becoming seriously ill due to the corona virus will be invited. In addition to the basic series (the first corona shots), these children can also receive a repeat shot from the end of February.
How do parents of children with an increased risk make an appointment?
The treating doctors are asked to carry out the selection of the 5 to 11-year-olds with a medically high risk and to send the invitation for a corona shot to their parents. This concerns, for example, children with a serious heart or lung disorder (other than asthma). The invitation explains that scheduling the appointment for a corona shot at a vaccination location of the GGD is only possible by calling. A special telephone number will be available for this purpose, which will be stated in the invitation letter.
What happens to agreements already made?
Children can only get a corona shot by appointment. Parents or carers of 5 to 11-year-olds who have made a vaccination appointment will be informed by e-mail by GGD GHOR Nederland about the revised advice. In addition, parents or caregivers of these children will be informed at the vaccination location. The appointment can continue as usual, even if it is scheduled after February 23, 2023. The appointment can of course also be canceled by calling the National Vaccination Appointments number 0800 – 7070.
