Even after a double vaccination, the corona rules should not be completely neglected, because infection is still possible. 172 cases are known in the Osnabrück region alone.
The districts are affected differently by such so-called vaccination breakthroughs: In Emsland, 42 cases were registered by the middle of the week, including two outbreaks in retirement homes with 15 sick people. According to the information, most of the people affected here were older than 80 years. Their infections are attributed to the fact that they had a weakened immune system due to previous illnesses.
Virus variants as a trigger
But six people younger than 40 were also affected. In younger people, the different virus variants of Corona often lead to such vaccination breakthroughs, said Gerhard Bojara from the health service for the city and district of Osnabrück in an interview with the NDR in Lower Saxony. “With the delta mutation, we know that it manages to cause a disease despite being vaccinated,” says Bojara. Therefore, the situation is very dynamic and unclear.
Vaccination leads to a milder course
In the county of Bentheim there have so far only been three people who fell ill despite being vaccinated. They were between the ages of 30 and 50. Two of them were only found to be infected by chance because they had hardly any symptoms of the disease. That is the decisive factor, Bojara emphasized. A vaccination protects against the severe course of Corona and that is what it is intended for. Nevertheless, the doctor continues to advise caution, for example with regard to the safety distances and the wearing of protective masks.
