Wednesday is the last day of school in Hamburg before the holidays. One thing is clear: there has never been a school year like this. Nevertheless, fewer students than expected seem to want to repeat the school year.
Due to the special circumstances caused by the corona pandemic, the Hamburg school authorities had made it easier to repeat classes, which had actually been abolished: the schools should generously allow applications for a repeat class.
Fewer applications than in the pre-Corona period
But the school authorities themselves are surprised: So far, it does not look as if the offer will be used on a large scale. So far, only a little over 1,300 applications have been received. In the corona-free year 2019 there were almost 2,000.
In the end of the school year, many students had spent more teaching time at home than at school because of the corona measures. Alternation and distance lessons had dominated everyday school life for more than half a year.
Authority spokesman: Degrees were important
Authority spokesman Peter Albrecht said to NDR 90.3: Above all it was important that all deals could take place. Nobody can therefore speak disparagingly of a Corona school year.
