In North Rhine-Westphalia, school starts again after the holidays. These Corona rules apply to students in class

Corona rules after Easter: No compulsory testing at schools in North Rhine-Westphalia

After two years of the corona pandemic, we know that the incidence increases after public holidays. That will also be for the weeks after Easter expected – especially because many families have the Holidays are away. That is why some federal states like Bavaria are sticking to the compulsory test for a week after the holidays before it falls on May 1st. In North Rhine-Westphalia If this is not the case: From April 25th, there will no longer be any routine compulsory tests in schools. This follows the new federal isolation and quarantine recommendations.

Criticism of the lack of a test concept was rejected by NRW School Minister Yvonne Gebauer (FDP) back: “The corona measures have been withdrawn everywhere in society, schools must not be an exception,” said Gebauer of the “Rheinische Post.” Children, young people and teachers would also have to participate in the relaxation of the corona virus.

Corona rules in the classroom: No school-internal mask requirement in North Rhine-Westphalia

A mask is no longer necessary in class since the corona loosening on April 2nd. In concrete terms, this means that both teachers and students no longer have to wear a mask during class. The same applies to the corridor or the playground. In theory, a mask no longer needs to be carried if the journey to the destination is not connected by public transport.

This rule is common in almost all federal states. The reason is the nationwide Infection Protection Act. With its change, most of the Corona rules have been abolished or relaxed. This also applies to the obligation to wear a mask indoors. Even individual federal states can no longer order a mask requirement – unless they are corona hotspots.

There are some advocates of these new regulations, but criticism remains – especially because testing is no longer mandatory.

Gebauer also opposed an internal school mask requirement: “I cannot exempt the school communities from this because a decision by a school conference, for example, cannot be above an infection protection law of the German Bundestag.” She pleaded that everyone should be allowed to wear a mask for self-protection.
