NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The interiors of restaurants, cafes and bars in the metropolis of New York have to close again in the coronavirus pandemic by order of Governor Andrew Cuomo. “The number of hospital admissions has not stabilized and, along with the increasing infection rate and population density in New York, this means that indoor hospitality is too high a risk,” Cuomo said on Friday.
As of Monday, the interiors, which have been allowed to be reopened with restrictions since the summer, would have to close again. However, outdoor entertainment and delivery or collection are still permitted.
Earlier this week, Cuomo had already warned against such a move if the number of hospital admissions did not stabilize. Gastronomy operators had protested that they would then not be able to make sufficient sales over the cold winter months. New York was an epicenter of the pandemic in the spring. The infection rate stabilized over the summer, but recently picked up again./cah/DP/men
