Almost every fifth Corona case is brought in from abroad. Now the Federal Council is taking measures: From July 6, travelers from high-risk areas have to be quarantined for ten days.

“The rule currently applies to travelers from Sweden – and maybe also to Serbia and other countries,” said Federal Councilor Alain Berset (48) to the media. The exact list should be published tomorrow Thursday.

The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and the Department of Justice and Police (FDJP) will update the list monthly. It is “reasonable” for travelers from Switzerland to find out about the respective risk countries, said Federal President Simonetta Sommaruga (60).

On the return trip, people from risk areas on the plane, in the coach and at the border crossings are also informed. You have to report to the cantonal authorities after entering the country – and quarantine on your own responsibility. The airline and coach companies are instructed not to transport sick passengers.

Risk assessment for trips to the Balkans

Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer (69) hopes that the quarantine requirement will have a deterrent effect. As long as the rules only apply to three to four countries, there is enough capacity at the border. “If the list is expanded, border closings would also have to be considered again.” At the moment, however, the situation on the border is “manageable”.

Entry restrictions until July 20
