Today the Beizer Günter Diexer (56) has to answer before the District Court of Winterthur ZH. Despite the strict lockdown, the Austrian had entertained guests in his café of the same name in Elsau ZH. After an initial check by the Zurich canton police in March 2021, it reopened the next day. Even when his bar was sealed, it made little impression on Diexer: he destroyed the official seal in front of the cameras.
He opened “consciously and intentionally”
According to the indictment from the Winterthur public prosecutor’s office, the accused opened his café “deliberately and intentionally” despite being aware of the official closure of restaurants. During the police check on March 15, 25 guests were found who were provided with food and drink by Diexer. The operator had neither a protection concept nor were protective masks worn. The Covid protest host announced his project on Facebook.
In addition, the patent holder denied the police officers access to the premises. Diexer is said to have made it impossible for the officials to check and show the guests present.
The next day, the cantonal police that had gone out again found 14 people eating and drinking. Diexer had already served unauthorized guests at the end of February.
Official seal did not impress the owner
After this incident, the Zurich Health Department closed and sealed the café. However, this only impressed the Austrian for a short time. On March 30, Diexer broke the official seal with a key to the cheers of 20 like-minded people. As a result, the police changed the lock cylinder and attached new seals, which the innkeeper destroyed again.
Last but not least, Diexer is accused of refusing access to a food inspector. In addition, he had not worn a mask again after the canton police arrived.
The public prosecutor is demanding that Günter Diexer be convicted of breaking the seal, favouritism, preventing an official act and violating the Covid measures. A nine-month unconditional prison sentence is requested. In addition, a fine of 900 francs and a fine of 7,000 francs.
«Sue judge for high treason»
Diexer himself is not very insightful. On the contrary: “The judge works up a sweat and is sued for treason if she is convicted. Since this is against every constitution, we speak of high treason, »writes the Covid rebel in an email to Blick. He does not want to comment on his motives. “The negotiation will be amusing,” announced the host mysteriously.
Diexers Café has currently given guest rights to the “URIG” association. There is a sticker on the door that reads “URIG Ortsgruppe Elsau”. The association is close to the Corona critic scene.
