Corona peaked on election day – De Standaard

On Tuesday, on the day of the US election, more than 91,000 corona infections were diagnosed in the United States. That is the second highest number since the start of the pandemic.

The peak appears on Wednesday from data from Johns Hopkins University. The highest number of infections was registered on Friday: there were 99,000. In the US, a total of nearly 9.5 million people have been infected with the virus, 232,000 people have died.

During the election campaign, current President Donald Trump repeatedly stressed that the US will quickly overcome the crisis, even if there are no signs of it at the moment. His Democratic challenger Joe Biden accused Trump of not adequately protecting Americans from Covid-19.

Everything indicates that Trump’s controversial corona policy had a significant impact on Americans’ voting behavior and Biden’s victory. What is striking is that the infections in conservative states like North Dakota and Iowa continue to rise rapidly, while in Democratic states like New York and California the virus is better controlled.
