Obese people do have an increased risk of becoming seriously ill after a corona infection. However, once they end up in intensive care (ic), they have no greater chance of dying.
This is the same as that of corona patients with a lower weight. This is evident from as yet unpublished research to be true de Volkskrant writes about it on Wednesday.
“Once at the ICU, the chances of all groups are comparable,” said research leader Peter Pickkers, intensivist and professor of intensive care medicine at Radboudumc. The study was conducted among 82 patients in ICU wards in Dutch hospitals.
