Corona pass of half a million unboosted people will expire on Friday

The corona admission ticket (CTB) of more than half a million people will expire next Friday because they have not yet received a booster shot. Minister Kuipers writes to the House of Representatives that a maximum of 540,000 people are involved.

The validity of the CTB is limited to 180 days after infection and 270 days after vaccination. People who had their last shot before 1 May (one shot from Janssen or two from another approved vaccine) therefore need a booster to be able to travel without additional conditions. The validity of the booster is unlimited for the time being.

According to Kuipers, the shorter validity period may lead to more people getting a booster vaccination. The corona pass for access to, among other things, catering and cultural institutions can also be obtained after a negative test result or if you have recovered from corona.

The same agreements within Europe

The limited validity is related to new European agreements. The EU Member States wanted to harmonize the deadlines. They have determined that from today the validity of the corona certificate for vaccinated persons who want to travel within the EU only nine months (270 days) left.

Austria and Italy imposed additional requirements on travelers at the end of last year when the omikron variant expanded rapidly, but due to the new agreement, the same rules now apply throughout the EU.

Deviate on request

Anyone who has a valid international QR code (on paper or in the CoronaCheck app) should in principle not have to deal with additional conditions, such as tests or a mandatory quarantine.

If a new, worrisome variant of the coronavirus emerges, a member state can ask the European Commission to be allowed to impose additional requirements on travelers.
