The Robert Koch Institute reported 318,387 new infections within 24 hours – a new record. The nationwide seven-day incidence also rose further to 1752.0 from 1734.2 the previous day. 300 more people died from or with the virus.
For the first time in the corona pandemic, more than 300,000 new corona infections were transmitted to the Robert Koch Institute within one day. According to the latest RKI information from the morning, the health authorities reported 318,387 cases in 24 hours. A week ago there were 294,931 new infections recorded.
Also peak seven-day incidence
The RKI gave the seven-day incidence as 1752.0. This is also a high. For comparison: the day before the value was 1734.2. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 1651.4.
Experts assume a high number of cases that are not recorded in the RKI data. One reason is the limited capacity of health authorities, for example, and contacts are often only tracked to a limited extent.
According to the new information, 300 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago it was 278.
High number of unreported cases
The RKI has counted 19,596,530 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. Here, too, the actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, since many infections go undetected.
The RKI last gave the number of corona patients who came to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days at 7.23 (Tuesday: 7.08). Among them are many people with a positive corona test who have another main illness.
The RKI gave the number of recovered people on Thursday as 15,329,000. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 127,822.
Lauterbach wants to keep free tests for the time being
The current Corona Test Ordinance, which also regulates the free citizen tests, expires on March 31. Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has now indicated that these tests could remain free for longer: “If the corona situation requires it, the citizen tests will also be available beyond May 31. We decide according to the situation,” said the minister.
Lauterbach appealed to the citizens: “Continue to use the tests, even if negative tests are no longer required for bars and discos. When visiting relatives, celebrations, events. Especially before encounters with immunocompromised people, the following should apply: only with a negative test.”
