The seven-day incidence has exceeded 800 for the first time. According to the Robert Koch Institute, there were 85,440 new infections. Despite the increasing numbers, tomorrow’s federal-state meeting is apparently not planning any tightening.
For the first time since the beginning of the corona pandemic, the nationwide seven-day incidence has exceeded the 800 threshold. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week as 806.8. The value was 772.7 the day before and 515.7 a week ago. A month ago, the institute had given the incidence value as 220.7.
The health authorities in Germany reported 85,440 new infections to the RKI within one day. For comparison: A week ago there were 52,504 new corona cases. Experts are currently expecting more and more infections that cannot be recorded, partly because testing capacities have been exhausted and the health authorities are increasingly overburdened.
54 new corona deaths
According to the RKI, 54 deaths were recorded within one day across Germany. A week ago there were 47 deaths. This increased the number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with SARS-CoV-2 to 116,718.
A total of 8,681,447 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher here as well, since many infections go undetected.
The hospitalization incidence, i.e. the number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days, was last given by the RKI on Friday at 3.77 (Thursday: 3.56). The value is not reported on weekends.
Because: No stricter measures
Despite the increasing number of infections, the Prime Ministers’ Conference, which will be held on Monday, does not want to tighten the existing corona measures, according to Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil. “So far we have been able to avoid an omicron wall, as we have seen in many other European countries. This is a real success,” Weil told the “RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland” (RND).

“There are no signs of tightening the corona measures and that’s good news for the current situation,” said Weil. However, the SPD politician pushed for the rapid introduction of compulsory vaccination, even if it does not come in time to combat the omicron wave.
Lauterbach announces new vaccination campaign
In order to increase the willingness of citizens to be vaccinated voluntarily, the federal government wants to start a new vaccination campaign in the coming week. “A broad vaccination campaign with posters, radio and TV spots will start on Tuesday, which is more creative than the previous ones. And it is in very different languages,” said Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach of “Bild am Sonntag”.
The new vaccination campaign is intended to appeal to different target groups, including the elderly, families and young men in rural areas, as well as people with a migration background. “We have to try everything to close the vaccination gap, which is also a prerequisite for a possible vaccination requirement.”

But have you already noticed that those who have been vaccinated and boosted have a much milder course? You can be against compulsory vaccination. There is no question that we need to increase the vaccination rate.
