Corona pandemic in Germany: RKI reports maximum number of deaths

According to the Robert Koch Institute, 962 people in Germany who were infected with the coronavirus died within one day – another high number of deaths. The incidence value, however, is lower than yesterday.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 962 people nationwide have died in connection with Covid 19 disease in the past 24 hours – more than ever before within this period since the outbreak of the pandemic in Germany.

The health authorities reported 24,740 new infections with the pathogen to the RKI since yesterday. That is around 5,000 cases more than the day before, and around 3,000 fewer than a week ago. However, the state of Saxony did not send any figures to the institute on Tuesday last week.

According to the RKI, the so-called seven-day incidence has decreased somewhat: to 195.1 from 197.6 last. The value indicates how many new infections occur per 100,000 inhabitants within a week.

Saxony hardest hit

The situation is currently most critical in Saxony. According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence here is 414.1. Since yesterday alone, the local health authorities reported 2727 further corona infections. More than 16,800 residents were infected within a week. The largest hotspot in Saxony is the Bautzen district with an incidence of 602.2 in seven days.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania reports the lowest number of cases. Here 312 people were infected within one day, within a week it was 1549. The seven-day incidence is 96.3.

This increases the number of confirmed corona infections to around 1.55 million. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 27,968 people who were infected with the pathogen have died in Germany. About 1.16 million people are considered recovered.
