The New York Philharmonic gave their first concert in front of an audience in 400 days.
For the concert evening, musicians and the audience had to observe numerous corona requirements: a mask was required, only 150 of the 1200 seats were occupied, and a negative corona test or proof of a completed vaccination had to be presented. The exact time for entry was specified on the electronic tickets, and the temperature was also measured.
Only 23 musicians
The orchestra only performed with its 23 musicians on the stringed instruments, brass and woodwinds were missing. The hour-long program included works by Caroline Shaw, Jean Sibelius and Richard Strauss.
The musicians of the New York Philharmonic received less salary during the corona-related forced break, and many gave music lessons. The orchestra hopes to resume its concert program in September.
