Several members of the regular crew are infected with the corona virus on the sailing training ship “Gorch Fock”. The training of around 100 candidate officers can therefore not start.
Several members of the regular crew were infected with the coronavirus on the “Gorch Fock”. The German Navy confirmed this at the request of NDR Schleswig-Holstein. According to the Navy, there are a small number of soldiers. The infected soldiers are doing well so far, said a spokesman for the Navy. Since everyone is vaccinated, there are only mild symptoms.

Probably infected on shore leave
The sailing training ship of the Navy is currently in Santa Cruz on Tenerife. It is not yet clear how the members of the regular crew became infected – it was probably during a shore leave. It is also not yet known which variant of the virus it is. According to Marine, the corresponding results are not yet available.
On-board training for cadets stopped
Originally the first 100 officer candidates were supposed to fly from Hamburg to Tenerife on Wednesday in order to be trained again on the “Gorch Fock”. However, the relocation has been stopped for the time being. It is not yet clear when the cadets can go on board.
