Corona outbreak in asylum seekers center Goes, residents in quarantine

49 of the 320 residents of the emergency shelter in the Zeelandhallen in Goes have tested positive for the corona virus. All residents are quarantined immediately and are not allowed to leave the site. According to a spokesperson for the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), no residents have yet been transferred to the hospital.

The day before yesterday, the GGD decided to test all residents because a number of them had complaints. Due to the high number of positive tests, it has been decided to set up part of the location especially for residents with covid-19.

Mouth caps obligation and one and a half meters

The mouth cap obligation has been reintroduced and residents must also keep their distance from each other, says COA spokesperson Timo Waarsenburg. The organization does not know how many residents have been vaccinated. “We can’t keep up with that, but we know that some have been vaccinated abroad and others here.”

At the end of September, the first Afghan refugees arrived at the emergency shelter in Goes.
