The end of the curfew in the city and district of Offenbach is approaching. The Main-Kinzig district, however, is still sticking to it.

Both the city and the Offenbach district will lift the nocturnal exit restrictions on Wednesday, January 6th at 9 p.m. That was decided by the two crisis teams on Tuesday afternoon. It was agreed to cancel it at the same time, as “there should be harmony in the region,” said district press spokeswoman Ursula Luh.

In the city of Offenbach, the incidence on Tuesday was 146.6 cases per 100,000 population. As late as December 25th, the city had recorded 207 cases per 100,000 residents, then the number steadily fell. It was 127 on December 31 and 128 on January 1.

The Offenbach district reported an incidence of 114.4 on Tuesday – similar to in previous days. Here, too, the value has fallen below 200 since Boxing Day. As a result, more and more voices were heard on social media calling for the curfew to be lifted.

There was less testing over Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s, and the laboratories were limited. District Administrator Oliver Quilling (CDU) therefore assumes that “the currently low number of cases does not correctly reflect the infection rate”. In Offenbach’s town hall, the risk was seen that the incidence would rise again over a longer period of time over 200 if testing was carried out again to the same extent as before Christmas. Then you have to reintroduce the exit restriction.

As the Darmstadt Administrative Court announced on Tuesday, a woman from Offenbach filed a lawsuit against the nocturnal exit restrictions imposed on December 22nd. Your urgent application, which was received on New Year’s Eve, was rejected on the same evening by the 4th Chamber responsible for infection protection law.

In the Main-Kinzig district, on the other hand, the night curfew is not lifted, although the seven-day incidence value has been below 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for five days. The district office refers to the uncertain data situation that exists due to the holidays and weekend days, which therefore do not show a reliable trend. According to Gelnhausen, the district uses the state’s scope for decision-making. The caution is explained by the fact that, in contrast to other counties, the incidence value was well above 300 at the beginning of the curfew. In the coming days, the district administration will decide whether the curfew will last until Sunday, January 10, as planned, or whether it will have to be extended. The trend from Monday to Tuesday suggests the latter, with the incidence rising from 159 to 175.
