Corona on its way, infections plummet to August level

At the end of April, more than 55,000 infections were reported to RIVM in seven days, last week the number had already fallen to just over 25,000.

This week, 9 percent of the tests taken were positive. The new reproduction number (the average number of people infected by one person) is 0.82. Same as last week.

In terms of infections, we are still at a ‘serious’ risk level, but given the significant drop, it will not be long before we go to ‘worrying’ level.

In addition, fewer and fewer corona patients are being admitted to hospitals and fewer people are dying from the virus. Last week, 43 percent fewer patients were hospitalized than in the week before. The new influx also fell by 43 percent on the IC.

There are currently 447 corona patients in intensive care units. Today there are 793 patients in nursing wards. The current occupancy figures are roughly comparable to the situation at the end of September/beginning of October.

We are now at about 82 new hospital admissions on average per day (today 83.6 in IC and 77 in hospital). We haven’t been this low since the end of September. However, the risk level ‘very serious’ still applies. If the current trend continues, we will dive below that level of risk for the first time.

This week, RIVM reports 66 registered deaths. Last week there were 96 and the week before 90.

The decline in the number of corona cases is partly because more and more people are vaccinated. More than a million Dutch people have received a shot in the past seven days.
