The corona numbers in the Main-Kinzig district are rising rapidly, the district has tightened the measures three times within a week. During a press conference, the district leadership appealed to the citizens.
Main-Kinzig district – The development of the numbers makes the dramatic situation all too clear: On October 8th, the value of 20 was exceeded for the first time in the Main-Kinzig district. On October 16, the incidence, ie the number of new infections calculated for 100,000 inhabitants in the past seven days, was already 35. Three days later it was 50. On October 22, the 75 value was exceeded. As of 11 a.m. yesterday, the number was already 123.
No wonder, then, that District Administrator Thorsten Stolz clearly appealed to every single citizen at the joint press conference with Health Secretary Susanne Simmler, Hanau’s Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky and Stefan Erb as spokesman for the mayor’s assembly with the words: “Help stop this dynamic!” Everyone between Maintal and Sinntal can make a small but important contribution to this.
The number of Covid patients in hospitals is increasing
Stolz also made it clear that not only the number of cases is increasing, but also the number of inpatient admissions in the district’s hospitals. If there were just six inpatient admissions of Corona patients on October 8, there were already 27 on October 27, These numbers also speak for themselves, according to the district administrator.
Like Kaminsky and Simmler later, Stolz made no secret of the fact that the districts, like the cities, would like a state ordinance. Discussions on this took place at various levels, but so far without any result that the State of Hesse had taken action. “Uniformity here would also help with communication,” the OB is certain.
Lots of commuters: Close agreements on the measures in the Rhine-Main area
There are, however, close coordination with Offenbach and Frankfurt, because the Rhine-Main area is a commuter region. Kaminsky also supported this statement. After all, around 30,000 people come to work in Hanau every day, and 15,000 leave the city. Schoolchildren or patients in the Hanau clinics are not even considered here.
The number of commuters is also enormous with a view to the Main-Kinzig district: around 100,000 drive into Frankfurt every day, 80,000 come to work in the district. Such a dynamic promotes the spread of the virus’. “With all these interrelationships, it is good,” said the mayor, “to orientate the measures to Frankfurt and Offenbach.”
High numbers for private celebrations and family get-togethers
The district administrator again emphasized that the increased numbers had their cause in the private sector, in celebrations, in family get-togethers. “That is a statement that we formulate without any reproach or with a raised index finger,” added Stolz. Now is not the time to point the blame, but for solidarity, mindfulness and mutual consideration. “It only works together, everyone has to take responsibility now.”
Susanne Simmler once again raised awareness of the contents of the general decree. “We will see at the end of the week at the earliest whether the measures have an effect,” said Simmler. The current new cases are related to the infection around two weeks ago.

The health department was topped up with 75 additional staff from other areas of the district administration in order to ensure contact person tracking in a multi-shift system from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nevertheless, there is a time lag, explained Simmler, how big the workload is for her employees.
Hanau: City police are supported by security
Mayor Claus Kaminsky also made an appeal to Hanauer. But he doesn’t want to leave it at that. The city police received support from 20 additional security guards. The city’s hygiene team has also been expanded. The city police and security are on the move in teams to check the conditions until late in the evening.
