The organization of liberation festival Liberation 040 in Eindhoven looked at the corona press conference last Friday with mixed feelings. The festival, which celebrates the liberation of Eindhoven in 1944, will take place on September 18, but two days later many corona measures may be released and much more may be possible.

“We are already so far with the preparations that moving is no longer possible,” says Tatum Simons of the Liberation 040 Foundation, the student organization behind the festival, which is approaching its fourth edition. “That made it extra sour, it seemed to be going in the right direction. But on the other hand, we can admit 750 visitors, which is still a large number.”

During the day, veterans will be present, exhibitions will focus on the importance of freedom and there will be performances. “Especially in these bizarre times, it is important to consider what freedom means to us,” says Liberation 040. The festival takes place on 18 Septemberplein and a corona proof is requested at the door. Last year the event was held on the Stadhuisplein and a maximum of 250 people were welcome.
