Lauterbach wants to facilitate the prescription of Paxlovid

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) wants to make the corona drug Paxlovid the second pillar in the fight against the pandemic, along with vaccination. As a first measure, GPs can now have the drug in stock in their office and administer it directly to coronary patients, Lauterbach told the Spiegel. A detour to the pharmacy is no longer necessary. A prescription of the drug should also be reimbursed with 15 euros. Each nursing home should appoint, in addition to a vaccination officer, also a Paxlovid employee who will take care of the entire organization. In the future, a stock of the drug should also be kept in homes so that it can be used quickly. So far, general practitioners in Germany have been reluctant to prescribe the drug.

690 new infections in Hamburg

There have been 690 new crown cases in Hamburg since yesterday. As can be seen from data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the incidence in the seven days remains unchanged compared to yesterday at 192.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. A week ago today the reading was 239.5. Two new crown-related deaths were reported to the RKI.

Lower Saxony: the incidence drops to 308.4

In Lower Saxony, 4,346 new corona infections were reported in one day. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence drops to 308.4 – yesterday the incidence value was 316.0. The RKI recorded another 17 Corona-related deaths.

RKI records 37,343 new coronary infections nationwide – the incidence drops to 263.6

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day national incidence on Friday morning as 263.6. The day before, the value of new coronary infections per 100,000 population and week was 271.3 (previous week: 312.5; previous month: 678.7). German health authorities recently reported 37,343 new corona infections (previous week: 46,724) and 90 deaths (previous week: 169) to RKI in one day.

The seven-day incidence in Schleswig-Holstein drops to 276.2

The incidence of corona in Schleswig-Holstein has again slightly decreased and is now 276.2. A week ago the value was 362.9 – and the day before 294.5. 1,055 new infections were reported in the country in one day, compared to 1,505 the week before. The situation in hospitals has eased slightly: 295 people are currently being treated for the virus (previous week: 386). There are 27 corona patients in the ICU, which is 12 fewer than a week earlier; but you are more than the day before. Eleven of them continue to be ventilated. The incidence of hospitalization in Schleswig-Holstein is 5.46 (previous week: 7.32). No new coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.

Note on current data: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infectious situation. Experts assume a large number of cases not registered by RKI, mainly because not all infected people have performed a PCR test. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. Furthermore, delayed recordings or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections recorded varies significantly from weekday to weekday, as many federal states do not report them to RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases throughout the week.

RKI: The peak of the wave has been exceeded even in case of serious illness

The drop in the omicron wave this summer is now also reflected in severe coronal diseases. “These data consistently show that the peak of the current wave has passed, even in the case of serious illness,” says the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) weekly report on Covid-19. The authors describe declining trends in the number of Covid-19 patients in German ICUs and in Covid-19 diagnoses. However, the RKI warns: “Despite the further general decline in the number of cases, the pressure of infection in the general population remains high across all age groups.” Although the operational situation has improved in recent weeks, the burden on the health system remains high. A high number of hospital admissions, Covid 19 ICU patients and deaths are expected to continue in the coming weeks. A random sample of positive cases analyzed shows that omicron BA.5 is still responsible almost exclusively for infections.

No restrictions even for starting school in Lower Saxony

Lower Saxony was the last federal state in northern Germany to start the new school year yesterday, even without the requirement to wear masks and tests. Some students are still not familiar with this after their experiences with the corona pandemic over the past couple of years, but they are happy that everyday school life is largely normal. The first day after the long vacation, the focus was on other issues, such as the war in Ukraine or the energy crisis.
