MV: Unregistered corona protests dissolved
With reference to the strict Corona restrictions, the police and the assembly authorities have prevented so-called protest walks in Schwerin and Stralsund. As the police spokesman in charge explained today, around 45 protesters in Stralsund and around 30 people in Schwerin gathered on Monday evening without registering. In order to circumvent the prescribed hygiene and distance rules – such as minimum distance and mask requirement – nobody wanted to register a meeting at the meeting. The authorities then banned spontaneous protest walks in larger groups. In Stralsund, several participants were also sent off.

Health Minister Reimann: ramp up vaccine production
Lower Saxony’s Health Minister Carola Reimann has spoken out against increasing the period between the first and second corona vaccination. On NDR Info, the SPD politician said that one had to adhere to the specifications of the manufacturer. Only then can effective protection be guaranteed. With a view to today’s federal-state consultations, Reimann hopes above all for resolutions on increased production capacities for the Biontech vaccine. Everything must be done to ensure reliable and continuous vaccine deliveries to the federal states, said the SPD politician.

First December aid should arrive
Companies and self-employed who are affected by the Corona restrictions are to receive the first December aid today. The Federal Ministry of Economics announced that the transfer of advance payments had started. Companies initially get 50,000 euros, solo self-employed up to 5,000 euros. The federal government had decided to use the billions in aid to support those companies that had to cease business operations since the beginning of November due to the partial lockdown. Sales losses of up to 75 percent compared to the same month last year are reimbursed.

EMA will not decide on Moderna vaccine until Wednesday
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has postponed the decision on a second corona vaccine in the EU. As the authority announced, it does not want to make a recommendation about the active ingredient from the US manufacturer Moderna until tomorrow. Accordingly, some questions remained open at a meeting of the expert committee. Moderna’s vaccine is already approved in the US and Canada. In the event of a positive recommendation from the EMA, the EU Commission still has to agree. However, this is a formality and could be done within a very short time. So far the EU has ordered 160 million doses of the vaccine from Moderna.

944 new corona deaths reported nationwide
The German health authorities reported 11,897 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day. In addition, 944 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, as the RKI announced in the morning. A week ago, 12,892 new infections and 852 deaths were reported. An interpretation of the data remains difficult because around Christmas and the turn of the year corona cases were discovered, recorded and transmitted with a delay, according to the RKI. The high of 1,129 new deaths was reached on December 30th. In the case of new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reported on December 18, at 33,777 – but this included 3,500 late reports.

Hamburg vaccination center starts work
With the vaccination of employees of the outpatient care services, that takes Central vaccination center in the Hamburg exhibition halls started operating on Tuesday. State government MV advises on corona crisis
The state government of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is again advising today at a switching conference on how the corona infection process can be contained. Experts fear that more than 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants will soon be registered within seven days in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) will also take part in the top-level talks between the state heads of government and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

235 new corona infections in Schleswig-Holstein
In Schleswig-Holstein, the authorities have registered 235 new corona cases. The day before, there were 211, a week ago 260 new infections within one day. The number of people who died from an infection rose by 29 to 475, according to data from the Ministry of Health. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 25,975 infections with Sars-CoV-2 have been detected in the country. The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week fell to 77.1. According to the information, 390 corona patients are currently in hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein. 75 of them receive intensive medical care – 49 with ventilation.

Nationwide lockdown before extension
The prime ministers are discussing today with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) how to proceed in the corona pandemic. Because of the continuing high number of infections, it is certain that Merkel and the country leaders will extend the strict contact restrictions beyond January 10th. Several heads of government have already commented on this. Another topic is likely to be the corona vaccinations, which are currently only getting started slowly.
