Lauterbach: Vaccination goal can only be achieved with broad vaccination of young people

According to the SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach, Germany can only achieve its vaccination goal in the Corona crisis by vaccinating children and adolescents. “We cannot achieve our vaccination target of 80 percent without vaccinating 12 to 18 year olds,” Lauterbach told “Bild am Sonntag”. A vaccination rate of 65 percent should be aimed for among young people. “For this, the schools should also be vaccinated to make things as easy as possible for the families,” suggested the SPD politician. Lauterbach warned that children and young people would particularly suffer from a fourth corona wave. “We have to prevent that. That is why they should preferably get a vaccination offer in early summer.”

Too much rush: Hamburg police clear the Schanzenviertel

Thousands of people celebrated on Sunday night on the streets of Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel. The police cleared the shoulder blade, which resulted in bottles being thrown and arrests. At an unauthorized party in Florapark, around 1,500 people danced to techno music, the loudspeaker system was in a white van. The police broke up the party. At the bars and restaurants in the Schanzenviertel almost all seats were occupied by midnight. People were huddled on the sidewalks. Minimum distances were not kept, hardly any masks were worn.

Quiet start to tourism in MV

Tourism in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania started up again very cautiously at first. Despite the pleasantly warm and sunny-cloudy weather, there was no crowd yesterday on the beaches and lakes or in popular tourist locations. There was also comparatively little going on in the hotels and holiday apartments after the surprisingly early opening for guests from their own federal state. “The utilization is manageable,” said Tobias Woitendorf, managing director of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania tourism association. At the moment, only 30 to 40 percent of the accommodation establishments are open. Because tourists from other federal states will not be able to stay overnight in the country again until June 4th, the larger hotels in holiday centers such as Binz on Rügen, Warnemünde, the imperial baths on Usedom or in Boltenhagen were initially closed.
