One in five primary school children cannot swim: share doubled during pandemic
According to a new Forsa survey, the proportion of non-swimmers among primary school children in Germany has doubled within five years. Last year, 20 percent of children between the ages of six and ten could not swim – five years earlier it was ten percent, the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) announced today. “The difference is serious, but given the developments over the past two to three years, it’s not surprising,” said DLRG President Ute Vogt.
“What surprised us in terms of clarity is the difference in income,” says Vogt. According to the survey, almost half (49 percent) of children from households with a monthly net income of less than 2,500 euros cannot swim – with a household net income of more than 4,000 euros it is twelve percent. “Being able to swim shouldn’t be a question of money. It’s all the more important that every school is able to teach swimming appropriately,” says Vogt. However, baths are necessary for this. But during the energy crisis, according to a recently published survey by the consulting firm Ernst & Young, almost every third municipality in Germany wants to close indoor and outdoor swimming pools or restrict operations, and many have already done so.

RKI: The seven-day incidence nationwide is now 68.3
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) states the nationwide seven-day incidence this morning at 68.3. In the previous week, the value was 87.9. According to the current figures, there were 16,072 new infections in Germany. According to the RKI, 141 other people have died in connection with the virus.
Note on the current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections registered varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.

Seven-day incidence in Hamburg is 40.6
According to the RKI, 226 new corona cases have been registered in Hamburg (previous week: 258). According to the information, the seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is currently 40.6 (previous week: 65.7).

Incidence slightly increased in Lower Saxony
The seven-day incidence of new corona infections in Lower Saxony is 107.6 today. The previous day it was 103.1, a week ago it was 149.2. The RKI reported 2,469 new infections (previous week: 2,616) and 27 other deaths related to Corona.

280 new cases registered in Schleswig-Holstein
The seven-day incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Schleswig-Holstein is currently 46.7, according to data from the state registration office. A week ago it was 70.5. 280 new corona infections were recorded (previous week: 495).
