Aerospace suppliers recover from pandemic slump

The supplier branch of the aviation industry is slowly recovering from the consequences of the pandemic-related restrictions. The business situation has fundamentally improved, “worldwide air traffic has recorded a rapid recovery, particularly in the past few months,” explained Hamburg Aviation spokesman Lukas Kaestner. Only one consequence remains: In the course of the pandemic, a number of positions were axed, which now have to be filled again because of the new momentum. According to IG Metall Coast, around 1,000 jobs will have to be filled in Hamburg in the next few months.

Doctors advocate the end of the mask requirement in practices

Doctors’ representatives have spoken out in favor of ending the mask requirement in practices. The chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, told the editorial network Germany that the pandemic situation was over. It is therefore logical to lift the mask requirement in medical practices and other medical facilities. The federal states should follow a corresponding announcement by Bavaria. The federal chairwoman of the General Practitioners Association, Nicola Buhlinger-Göpfarth, made a similar statement. The practices should decide independently. Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has so far rejected an end to the mask requirement in the healthcare sector.

Even from the northern countries today only incidence values

Because the federal states did not transmit any numbers on the registered new infections to the Robert Koch Institute at the weekend, only the current incidence values per 100,000 inhabitants and week are reported today – the numbers will probably be reported later tomorrow. For Lower Saxony, the incidence value is given as 103.1 (previous week: 164.0), for Schleswig-Holstein at 49.7 (previous week: 80.4) and for Hamburg at 39.7 (previous week: 76.0). For Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the RKI reports an incidence of 77.9; for the state of Bremen 77.8. However, the two federal states will not publish their current corona numbers until this afternoon.

Fewer patients in intensive care

There are significantly fewer patients in intensive care units in Germany than at the beginning of the year. Since the beginning of January, the number of corona patients in the intensive care units has “reduced from around 1,500 to less than 800 today – i.e. almost halved,” said the Vice President of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI), Gernot Marx, the editorial network Germany (RND). “Corona is no longer a problem in the intensive care units.” In addition, the number of daily new admissions is falling steadily. Now the operations that were postponed in December could be made up for. At the moment, the clinic staff “does not have to think every day about how we can still ensure patient care,” said Marx. According to the German Hospital Society (DKG), occupancy is also decreasing in the other wards. “Significantly falling occupancy numbers” would be recorded for those who tested positive for the corona virus, said DGK CEO Gerald Gass to the RND. The number of sick employees is also declining, which relieves the personnel situation in many places.

RKI: The seven-day incidence nationwide is now 67.5

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) states the nationwide seven-day incidence this morning at 67.5 (Friday: 72.6 / previous week: 98.4). As usual in the past few weeks and months, the federal states did not transmit any data to the RKI at the weekend. Numbers of confirmed new infections will not be announced until tomorrow.

Note on the current numbers: The incidence values do not provide a complete picture of the infection situation. Experts assume a high number of cases not recorded by the RKI – mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the official statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values. In general, the number of new infections registered varies significantly from weekday to weekday, since many federal states do not transmit them to the RKI, especially at weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
