Vineta Easter spectacle again for the first time – 2,500 visitors at Zinnowitzer Strand

According to the organizers, around 2,500 visitors attended the Vineta Easter spectacle on the Zinnowitz beach on the island of Usedom today. “Finally back in front of an audience, it was a mutual pleasure,” said a spokeswoman for the Vorpommersche Landesbühne Anklam. The mixture of dance, drama, sword fighting and music refers to a legend according to which, on an Easter Sunday, a child on the beach saw the sunken city of Vineta rising out of the Baltic Sea. The spectacle took place again this year for the first time since 2019. In the past two years it had been canceled due to Corona. Before the pandemic, between 2,000 and 3,000 people attended the spectacle every year. The Vorpommersche Landesbühne traditionally opens its festival season with this event.

Much criticism of Lauterbach’s warning of “killer variant”

Statements by Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) about what he believes to be possible corona variants have been criticized by experts and politicians. Lauterbach told the “Bild am Sonntag”: “It is quite possible that we will get a highly contagious omicron variant that is as deadly as Delta. That would be an absolute killer variant.” The Hamburg virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit wrote on Twitter: “What are these killer variants?” So far, he has not found this description for coronavirus variants from the World Health Organization, the EU health authority ECDC or the American CDC. The CDU health politician Erwin Rüddel tweeted with reference to the Lauterbach statements: “He should have actually learned from his mistakes and misjudgments.” Unfortunately, the minister only believes in “his” science and not THE science, says Rüddel. In hundreds of other tweets, the Minister of Health was accused of scaremongering and pointed out that scientists assumed that Corona would be less deadly.

No figures sent to the RKI: Incidence value in Lower Saxony continues to fall

Since the state of Lower Saxony no longer transmits current corona numbers to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on public holidays and weekends, the seven-day incidence on the long Easter weekend “cannot be meaningfully interpreted,” said a spokesman for the Lower Saxony state health office . Despite the lack of new infection numbers, the RKI still states the seven-day incidence today – at 1,007.3. For comparison: Yesterday the value was 1,108.2. Last Saturday it was 1,339.7.

Lower Saxony: Only a few pharmacies create PCR test devices

PCR tests for the corona virus are still a rarity in Lower Saxony’s pharmacies, despite a funding program. At the beginning of February, the state government announced that it would support pharmacies with the purchase of PCR test devices with three million euros – since a subsidy of up to 3,000 euros was possible per pharmacy, 1,000 pharmacies were able to benefit from the program. However, the state’s development bank, the NBank, has only received 67 applications so far, even though the funding period expired at the end of March. This was announced by the NBank of the German Press Agency. According to Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD), around 250 of the 1,700 pharmacies in Lower Saxony already had PCR test devices before the subsidy was introduced. The program was intended to counteract a bottleneck in testing capacities.

Lauterbach expects the Omicron vaccine in September

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) expects that a corona vaccine adapted to the Omicron variant can be used from September. “We’re getting a vaccine that protects against the omicron variants. We’re expecting it in September,” Lauterbach told the “Bild am Sonntag”. He warned that the intervals at which new variants replaced the old were becoming ever shorter. “That means we’re getting less and less prepared for the mutations. It’s entirely possible that we could end up with a highly contagious omicron variant that’s as deadly as Delta. That would be an absolute killer variant.” Lauterbach said vaccine against delta variants is available. “Our goal is to have as much vaccine as possible for every citizen, no matter which variant comes. Then we have an antidote for both an omicron and a delta variant.”

RKI registers 39,784 new corona infections – incidence at 834.3

The nationwide seven-day incidence has continued to fall. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Sunday morning as 834.3 (previous day: 876.5 / previous week: 1,097.9). The health authorities reported 39,784 new corona infections to the RKI within one day (previous week: 55,471). When considering the values, it must be taken into account that some countries do not report data on every day of the week. Fewer reports are also to be expected on public holidays. This in turn leads to late registrations on the following days. According to the new information, 13 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours (previous week: 36 deaths).

Incidence in Schleswig-Holstein falls below 1,000

The corona incidence in Schleswig-Holstein has fallen below the value of 1,000 – to 953.1. This emerges from the data from the state registration office on Saturday evening. On Good Friday, the number of new infections registered per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 1,014.9, on Thursday it was a good 1,150. The number of new infections reported within 24 hours was 571. On Good Friday there were 1,163 cases. With all figures it should be noted that the health authorities only work to a limited extent on weekends and public holidays.
