Corona news: Restaurants want to open again through the courts and new weekly figures RIVM

In this live blog we will keep you informed on Tuesday of the latest news about the corona crisis in Brabant and beyond.

06.51 – Horeca fight closure in court
The closure of the catering industry will be contested in the court in The Hague on Tuesday. The Hague bodega De Posthoorn has brought preliminary relief proceedings against the Dutch state, several other catering entrepreneurs subsequently joined.

The aim of the lawsuit is that the closure of restaurants, imposed by the cabinet in connection with the corona virus, will be lifted immediately. Last week the cabinet announced a package of stricter measures to reduce the outbreak. Restaurants, lunchrooms and cafes have to close their doors for a month, but take-out is still possible.

06.50 RIVM comes with weekly figures
The second wave of the corona outbreak continues to swell. In the past week, the virus has likely been found in about 55,000 people. The exact figure will be published on Tuesday afternoon in the weekly update of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). That reported last Tuesday that it had received 43,903 reports in the seven days before.

The RIVM has seen the number of new cases increase for weeks. The weekly figure increased from 3,597 to 5,427 to 8,265 to 13,471 to 19,326 to 27,485 to 43,903. In the summer, about 8,000 cases were discovered in two months, now there are so many positive tests every 24 hours.

06.43 Pensions possibly reduced
The two largest Dutch pension funds, ABP and PFZW, fear that they will have to reduce pensions next year. Their financial position, which was hit hard by the corona crisis earlier this year, has still not recovered sufficiently.
