In recent days, 94,864 positive corona tests have been registered. That is almost 19 percent less than the week before. It is the lowest level since early November in the weekly figures of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
The number of hospital admissions also decreased. In the past week, the corona complaints of 1,335 people were so bad that they ended up in hospital. Of them, 248 were admitted to an intensive care unit. The week before, RIVM reported 1986 admissions after correction, of which 338 were in intensive care.
The number of deaths also fell sharply. In the past seven days, RIVM was informed that 322 people have died as a result of the infection, compared to 445 in the week before.
The so-called reproduction number falls to 0.88, the lowest level since July. RIVM expects the number of positive tests to rise again in the near future due to the omikron variant. As a result, “the number of hospital admissions will also increase again. An increase that may well exceed the care capacity.”
