Thuringia | Municipalities worry about the corona effect at social burials
Because of the corona pandemic, municipalities fear rising spending on social burials. “It is to be expected that the applications for takeover costs for funerals will increase in 2021,” said the spokeswoman for the Eisenach city administration, Janina Walter, the German press agency. Short-time working and job loss could cause the financial resources of the deceased and bereaved to dwindle in the long term.

Undertakers and crematoriums are already charging surcharges for corona victims. Additional costs of 50 to 60 euros per death are incurred due to the necessary protective equipment, explains the head of the guild of the Thuringian Undertaker Association, Gerd Rothaug. Longer cooling times due to the longer waiting times before burial resulted in additional costs.
–
Usually relatives of the deceased have to bear the costs of the funeral. If they cannot cover the costs of a funeral or if there are no relatives, a social funeral is an option, for which the municipality pays the costs. Most recently, the municipal expenses for social burials in Thuringia fell.

Weimar | SPD MP criticizes Ramelow
Sharp criticism of Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow comes from the Thuringian SPD. The Weimar SPD member of the state parliament Thomas Hartung accuses the left-wing politician of poor pandemic management.
–
The Thüringer Allgemeine said Hartung that Ramelow’s fickleness does not exactly contribute to increasing trust in red-red-green. Every decision by the state government depends on Ramelow’s view of Corona. According to the SPD politician, there is no reliability. Hartung also criticizes Health Minister Heike Werner from the Left. The health department in the Ministry of Social Affairs is almost non-existent, among other things because of many vacancies and sick employees.

Erfurt | Senior clubs should help with the vaccination appointment
In the Erfurt senior clubs, older people will soon be helped to find a corona vaccination appointment. There are currently talks, among others, with the city’s senior citizens’ council, said Karola Stange (left) MDR THÜRINGEN. In the clubs, the forms that are needed for vaccination should then be printed out and filled out. In the past few days, the city administration had sent almost 15,000 letters with advice on vaccination. Although this is good information for all older people, they often need very specific support, says Stange.

Thuringia | Workshops for the disabled suffer from Corona
After a year of the corona pandemic, the economic situation is worsening for many workshops for the disabled in Thuringia. According to the regional working group “Workshops for the disabled”, the main reason for this is the loss of sales in production and the additional costs for hygiene concepts and tests.
–
It is particularly difficult for workshops that supply industry. They had to stop working for weeks. At the same time, the failures also resulted in costs that have to be covered. This is often associated with a lot of bureaucracy, as the administrative manager of the North Thuringian workshops, Christian Völkel, MDR THÜRINGEN said. As a result, the actual task – working with disabled people – takes a back seat.
–
Workshops that run farm shops or work with animals, however, had it easier. They are considered to be systemically relevant and could almost always remain open to employees.
