Thuringia | Catering Union Urges Openings Schedule
The food-pleasure-restaurants union (NGG) in Thuringia is pushing again for a reliable schedule for the reopening of the establishments. Managing director Jens Löbel said that the hospitality industry is experiencing a historically unique crisis that is also affecting employees with full force. Löbel referred to the guest numbers for Thuringia presented on Wednesday. The number of overnight stays fell by almost half last year compared to the previous year. The federal and state governments must finally submit a plan for how things should continue in March, said Löbel. In Erfurt alone, the industry says it employs around 4,300 people.

Nationwide | Countries want to significantly expand vaccination capacities by April
With the arrival of more vaccines, the federal states expect significant progress in vaccinations against the coronavirus by the beginning of April. In several countries, vaccination capacities could be doubled by then. This is the result of a survey by the German Press Agency.

According to the federal states, significant increases, including doubling or even multiplying capacities, are also possible in Bremen, Baden-Württemberg, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Schleswig-Holstein, Saarland or Thuringia. Many federal states cited a lack of vaccine quantities as the reason for the low occupancy rate of the vaccination centers so far. On the other hand, there was sufficient staff. In Thuringia, vaccination is currently taking place in 28 vaccination centers, with three more to follow.

Thuringia | Health Minister fears the infection situation will escalate
Health Minister Heike Werner (Linke) fears a possible new escalation one year after the start of the corona pandemic. “I believe that we are now at least at the beginning of the third wave,” said Werner of the German press agency. She is particularly concerned about the mutations of the corona virus, including the highly contagious variant that was first observed in Great Britain. “We have to look very carefully at how that develops,” said the 52-year-old. “We are in a race: vaccination, contact restrictions, hygiene measures, AHA rules – against further spread.”
