Due to a malfunction, the number of positive corona tests has dropped to below 20,000 nationally, for the first time in more than two weeks. Between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, 18,588 new cases were registered. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) does not know how many there would have been without the outage.
The malfunction is in the RIVM system where the reports come in. This may mean that the figure will be adjusted on Thursday when the positive tests have been processed.
In Amsterdam, 629 residents were told that they had the corona virus among their members. Rotterdam had 605 new cases and The Hague 406. This is followed by Tilburg (380), Eindhoven (343), Breda (232), Den Bosch (225) and Utrecht (224). No one tested positive on Ameland, Schiermonnikoog and Vlieland.
The national number of positive tests has stabilized in recent weeks. There are 20,000 to 23,000 confirmed infections every day. The RIVM “strongly suspects” that the actual number of infections is leveling off, and that it is not a distorted picture due to the peak pressure at the test streets of the GGDs.
In the past week, RIVM registered 149,951 confirmed infections. That is more than 4 percent less than the total for the seven days before. It is the first time since October 3 that the number of positive tests has fallen on a weekly basis.
The number of deaths rose by 45. That is roughly comparable to the level over the past few days.
Nearly 2.7 million positive tests have been registered since the start of the epidemic. Nearly 19,500 people are certain to have died from the virus. The actual numbers are higher.
