The provinces of Drenthe and Groningen are also turning dark red today, the highest corona warning level, on the European corona map. They were the last provinces that had not yet reached that point. It is the first time since the start of the epidemic that the whole of the Netherlands has turned dark red.
Limburg sets a new Dutch record. More than 15,600 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past two weeks. That amounts to almost 1,400 cases in every 100,000 people, or one in every 71 Limburgers. In December last year, Limburg had 1143.1 positive tests per 100,000 inhabitants in two weeks. That was the old Dutch record.
Groningen is the ‘quietest’ province of the Netherlands. In the past two weeks, about 526 out of every 100,000 people have tested positive there. That is about a third of the figure for Limburg. North Holland is the fastest climber. The corona card is determined every Thursday by the ECDC, the European health service to which the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) is a member.
