The well-known Dickens Festival in Deventer is also canceled this year due to the measures against the corona virus. The organization thinks that ‘with hundreds of characters, extras and artists and also choirs and many visitors from home and abroad’ it is not feasible to organize the festival within the corona guidelines.

The Dickens Festival attracts between 125,000 and 150,000 visitors annually. It was to be held on December 19 and 20.

Medium and small companies are investing less in sustainable energy due to the corona crisis. This emerges from research by MKB-Nederland among more than 150 entrepreneurs. Before the corona crisis, almost two-thirds of SMEs had the plan to invest in the next twelve months in making energy generation and consumption more sustainable.

A large majority of this group now indicates that they will invest less or no more later.

The third crisis support package is good news for the travel industry. But according to umbrella organization ANVR, it will be insufficient to guide many entrepreneurs in the sector through the crisis. The ANVR has therefore sent a letter to members of the Lower House. They talk about the tourism sector on Wednesday.

The ANVR specifically draws attention to the differences that countries use with their travel advice. This should be addressed in a European context. The ANVR also advocates the creation of a so-called voucher bank.

More and more Dutch people who cough or have other complaints that could indicate the corona virus, are being tested. However, the willingness to stay at home with complaints is small, according to behavioral research by the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and GGD-GHOR.

The poll of 60,000 people, which is periodically repeated, shows that 32 percent of the respondents who suffer from complaints have had themselves tested for corona. That is almost double the previous poll, which was conducted in July.

A fund must be set up that compensates employers for the continued payment of salary to employees who are preventively quarantined at home because they may be infected with the corona virus. The banks of rivers in our country have become more seriously polluted with plastic waste in recent months than they already were. Clean Rivers, an organization that investigates and cleans up plastic, warns against this. Clean Rivers has been told by various municipalities that pollution has increased further during the corona crisis.

More people than usual have gone out into nature in their own country. It was also busier along the rivers than in previous years.

Schools fear frigid classes if the ventilation systems are not in order in about a month. This is evident from a tour of De Telegraaf. In the classroom the windows are obliged to open because of corona, just after the summer vacation, with a warm sun and temperatures above twenty degrees, it was still feasible. But with the R in the month it gradually gets colder again and so the concern about the autumn and winter months grows in the schools. Because as long as the ventilation systems are not working, the windows must be open.
