If carnival continues, the cabinet sees this as a major event for which a 1G policy applies. Minister Ernst Kuipers of Health would have said this on Friday morning, according to the NOS. A spokesman for the minister has denied this to Omroep Brabant.
Kuipers has pointed out the massive nature of a popular festival such as carnival, but it has not yet been decided what measures are necessary to ensure that everything runs smoothly. The cabinet has yet to make a decision on this, and that decision depends, among other things, on the advice of the Outbreak Management Team.
Should a 1G policy apply, this means that all carnival celebrants, even if they have been boosted or recently cured of corona, must be able to show a recent negative test evidence.
When asked why carnival is seen as a ‘big event’ and not as a catering affair, Kuipers said: “I think everyone still has the memory of how corona once started here and what that subsequently meant for numbers of patients across the country. So I think the answer to whether that’s a big event and whether you’re at risk of infection there is ‘yes’.”
