Berlin – While the number of new infections with SARS-CoV-2 in Germany is falling, the vaccination campaign is picking up speed. This is shown by the data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) today.

Accordingly, the health authorities in Germany reported the RKI 7,534 new corona infections within one day. For comparison: on Tuesday a week ago, the value was 10,976. According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants was 141.4 nationwide on Tuesday morning (previous day: 146.9; previous week: 167.6)

According to the RKI, 315 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. Exactly a week ago there were 344 dead. The RKI has counted 3,433,516 detected infections with SARS-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,061,500.

The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with SARS-CoV-2 rose to 83,591.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.88 (previous day: 0.92) according to the RKI management report from yesterday evening. This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 88 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

At the same time, more and more people in Germany are vaccinated against Corona. As of noon today, 28.7 percent of people had received the vaccine at least once. So far, a good eight percent of the population has received full vaccination protection.

On Monday, 424,777 vaccine syringes were used. The highest daily value since the start of the vaccination campaign was reached last Wednesday with more than a million vaccinations.

All in all, all vaccination centers have so far administered a little more than 30.6 million doses, of which almost 23.9 million were first vaccinations and a further 6.8 million were second vaccinations.

The vaccination rate varies depending on the federal state. The Saarland has the highest quota of at least first vaccinated persons at 32 percent. With 25.8 percent, Brandenburg is slightly behind the other federal states. Of around 35.7 million vaccine doses delivered, 85.7 percent have so far been used.
