After the so-called British coronavirus mutation B1.1.7 was detected in a woman from the Hanover region, 90 people are in quarantine. It takes at least 14 days.
All those affected live in the region, as region spokeswoman Christina Kreutz told NDR.de on Tuesday. Initially, the health department had sent 120 people into domestic isolation. On Friday, however, it turned out that the infections in a daycare center were not related to the woman’s infection. Now two day care centers and a primary school are still affected by the measure. According to Kreutz, the contacts there come about through the woman’s employment relationship and children from her family.
Few other infections detected so far
The previous tests would have shown several other corona infections. However, it is not possible to reliably say where these people were infected and whether it is the mutated variant, said the region spokeswoman. Most of the follow-up tests have so far been negative. For some people, the 14-day quarantine was extended because some of them did not go to the test and as a result did not present a negative test result.

Second infection in woman, evidence of mutation
The woman’s case stood out because she was infected for the second time within six weeks. One test was positive for the first time on November 27th and the second on January 11th. Since a reinfection speaks for an infection with a mutation, the health authority has ordered stricter measures such as the quarantine extended by four days. “This is purely a precautionary measure, as we cannot assess whether there is still a risk of infection with this mutation, even with a low viral load,” said Health Secretary Cora Hermenau.
Source of infection still open
Where the person affected was infected is still unclear: No contact with Great Britain is known, according to the Hanover region. According to the health department, the chain of infection has now almost been stopped. This is apparently indicated by the high number of negative test results.
Medical masks must now be worn in local transport and in supermarkets. Exceptions apply to children. more
