In Hamburg’s schools, many corona rules should continue to apply after the summer holidays, including the mask requirement and the test requirement.
The pupils in Hamburg have to wear masks in the classrooms at least at the start of the coming school year. In addition, they should also be tested twice a week after the summer holidays, the school authorities announced on Thursday. The ventilation and hygiene rules will therefore also remain in force for the time being.
Rabe: “Test and ventilate instead of school closings”
“Always new virus variants and the problems with obtaining the vaccine remain a risk. That is why it is better to test and ventilate than to close schools,” explained school senator Ties Rabe (SPD). After the holidays, there should be full classroom teaching at all schools in the Hanseatic city from August 5, while maintaining the applicable Corona security measures. “We want to go into the new school year optimistically but cautiously,” said Rabe.
Excursions and school trips are possible again
If the health situation does not change dramatically, the schools would open with a full timetable and all all-day and additional offers, said the authority. Restrictions in music and sports should be kept to a minimum. In addition, excursions, project weeks, parents’ evenings, graduation and schooling parties and school trips should be possible again in the new school year.
Obligation to be present remains lifted until autumn
In view of the higher number of infections after the holidays in summer and autumn 2020, the mandatory attendance for the start of the new school year will initially be lifted until the autumn holidays, the authority announced. Nonetheless, compulsory schooling applies without restriction, and the pupils must consequently take part in the offers developed for them by the school.
