Day after day, the corona map of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) paints a more bleak picture of the pandemic in Europe. More than half of the European countries – sixteen there are already – have more than 120 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the last fourteen days and therefore turn dark red.
In Belgium, too, the increase has become increasingly significant in recent days. This is now also evident from the figures from the ECDC: our country was still fifth on Friday, but on Saturday already left France behind and on Sunday, Spain and the Netherlands were also overtaken in the list of countries most affected. With 364 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, we score well above the threshold of 120. Only the Czech Republic – 433 cases per 100,000 inhabitants – has even worse figures.
The sixteen European countries that color red are the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Slovakia, Luxembourg, Romania, Malta, Slovenia, Ireland, Austria, Hungary and Portugal. View the situation per country here.
