Corona madness on England’s beaches

Nobody listens to Prime Minister Boris Johnson anymore.

London. Despite the corona pandemic, tens of thousands of Britons stormed the coast in the south of their country on Thursday. In Bournemouth, the forces even had to trigger a “serious incident” because the situation was no longer manageable. This gives the emergency services more rights and coordination options.

On the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, despite the corona pandemic, people were crowded on the beaches. Southern English seaside resorts such as Bournemouth and Brighton were particularly popular on Wednesday. At London Heathrow Airport, almost 33 degrees were measured in the afternoon.

Such crowds otherwise only existed on public holidays, city officials said. “We are absolutely horrified by the scenes that have been seen on our beaches … in the past 24 to 48 hours.” Emergency services complained about illegal parking, traffic collapse, garbage pollution, aggressive behavior of beach visitors and alcohol abuse at high temperatures.

The British media report the incredible images: The “Daily Mail” writes of a “human flood” and reports of 33 tons of rubbish on the beach within 48 hours on the completely crowded beach of Bournemouth. There were also fights among drunks.

“Daily Telegraph” quotes an old saying on its front page that, before the corona pandemic, served as a humorous explanation for the many sunburnt British holidaymakers. “Only crazy dogs and English go out into the sun at noon,” the newspaper writes.

Long day trips have been allowed in England even in the Corona crisis. Among other things, it draws people from the metropolis of London to the coast. Britain is the worst pandemic country in Europe.
