Whirlwinds around the final tournament of the Champions League in Lisbon planned for mid-August (August 12th to 23rd): In the month before the first quarter-finals of the premier football class take place, large parts of the greater Lisbon area are now being sent into the lockdown again. The Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa recently announced this. For an initial two weeks from July 1, residents of the 19 affected communities in the greater metropolitan area are only allowed to go outside to do shopping, go to work, or see a doctor. UEFA, which had only given the tournament to Lisbon in mid-August, has now responded to the new lockdown.

The European football association split up dpa-Inquire with continuing to plan with the final tournament in Lisbon: “There is currently no reason to have a plan B,” said the association. However, given the situation in Portugal, UEFA leaves all options open: “We assess the situation on a daily basis and will adjust it if necessary.”
