The spread of the Coruna virus has complicated the calculations of relegation in the Argentine league, which adopts a complex and unusual system with regard to first-class climb and relegation to the second section.

The Argentine league has been suspended since last March, due to the spread of a virus SkAnd, as is the case in most countries of the world, which decided to suspend sports competitions, because of the virus that appeared in China towards the end of last year, and infected more than 3 million people.

Complex calculations

The Argentine league is one of the oldest football competitions in the world, as it appeared before the end of the 19th century, and its system changed more than once over the years.

The current system of the Argentine league was applied in 2014 with the participation of 20 teams, then the number changed on more than one occasion, to reach 24 teams in the current season (2019-2020).

Unlike the system adopted in most of the worlds journals, the decline in the Argentine league depends on the rate system, where the average score for each team in the competition is calculated in the last 3 seasons, and the two teams fall to the second degree, in return they rise instead 4 clubs.

More complexity

The Argentine Football Association decided to cancel the domestic league after a hiatus of more than a month, as well as to vote on the issue of canceling the relegation, which further complicates its calculations.

Claudio Tapia, president of the Argentine Football Association, said that the decision to cancel the relegation has already been made, and he will vote (Tuesday) for adoption.

Tapia pointed out that the federation is considering continuing to cancel the landing for two seasons, and to increase the number of teams emerging for the first degree, due to the economic crisis experienced by the clubs to stop activity due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.

“The rising teams will be decided on the pitch, but we cannot now set a date for the return, because the decision is not in our hands,” Tapia told TNT Sports.

He added: “The Federation Council will decide the issue of canceling the landing, but with specific controls, until matters return to normal in 2022.”

The President of the Argentine Confederation also confirmed that determining the teams that qualify for the continental championships will be determined on the field when the health conditions permit.

He concluded: “The local championships in Argentina were stopped by a decision of the Ministry of Health, and the federation fully respected health measures. Everyone wants the return of football because we need the return of this industry, the crisis is not limited to our country, but it is a global crisis.”

Cancel the season

The Argentine federation decided to cancel all local competitions this season, and it is the first federation in South America to take this step, several days after the Netherlands did the same.

Boca Juniors had already secured the 34th title for the championship last March, before stopping, to book one of the Copa Libertadores Cup next season, along with rivals River Plate, Racing Club, and Argentinos Juniors.

Feliz Sarsfield, San Lorenzo, Newells Old Boys, Talres, Davensa I. Justicia and Lanos clubs are playing in the Copa America Sudamericana “South America Cup”.
