Despite the pandemic, but under corona-compliant conditions, the famous Thanksgiving Parade took place in New York.
This year, however, the program with dance groups, bands and clowns was partly recorded beforehand. In addition, only a few spectators saw the spectacle directly from the roadside. As in previous years, however, large balloons depicting the comic figure “Snoopy” were drawn through the streets of New York City.
The Macy’s department store chain originally launched the parade as a promotion and this year it is the 94th time. Millions of Americans watch them on television each year.
Meanwhile, US President Trump has announced in his annual Thanksgiving message that he is encouraging all Americans to gather in houses or churches to thank God for all that is good.
American health experts fear that Thanksgiving celebrations could turn into super-spreader events.
This message was broadcast on November 26th, 2020 on Deutschlandfunk.
