The takeover by omikron is not unexpected, and was predicted for the Christmas weekend. “We’ve been saying for about ten days that Christmas would probably be the turning point, where we switch from a dominant delta to a dominant omikron variant,” says Molenberghs.
“It will evolve quickly in the coming days,” predicts Molenberghs. He expects the omikron variant to be available by the end of the year 90 to 95 percent will be responsible for the infections. “We don’t know that exactly exactly yet, we often see that the rising curve at the end widens a bit and slows down a bit, because of course you can only go up to 100 percent.” (read below the graphs)
