Further research now shows that for this reason at least 13 babies have died before birth since July this year, in the area around Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.
“In all thirteen mothers the placenta was damaged by the corona virus,” gynecologist and researcher Sam Schoenmakers told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant yesterday. “That’s an incredible amount. There is no other infectious disease that causes so much death in unborn babies in our region in such a short period of time.”
