The omicron wave is driving up the number of corona cases. For the first time, the seven-day incidence in Berlin exceeded the 1,000 mark. In Potsdam, too, the brand now has four digits.

The seven-day incidence of corona cases in Berlin exceeded the 1,000 mark for the first time. The Robert Koch Institute gave the value for the capital on Wednesday at 1,055.1. On Tuesday it was still at 947.7. Among the federal states, only Bremen currently has a higher seven-day incidence of 1,295.6.
The number of cases is also increasing in Brandenburg. The incidence climbed from 635.3 to 689.8. A new high of 1,113.1 was reached in the state capital of Potsdam. There, as well as in the districts of Teltow-Fläming and Havelland, night curfews for the unvaccinated will apply again from Wednesday. This applies to the Oder-Spree district from Friday.

Three Berlin districts are currently the corona hotspots in Germany: Mitte with an incidence of 1,797.5, Neukölln with 1,651.8 and Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg with 1,477.7. A total of six Berlin districts are among the ten most affected German districts. Potsdam is ninth in this ranking.
The situation in the intensive care units of the Berlin hospitals has not worsened despite increasing hospital admissions. According to information from Wednesday, 17.6 percent of the intensive care beds are occupied by Covid 19 patients. A week ago it was 19.1 percent.
However, the hospitalization incidence increased from 10.6 to 12.6 over the same period. The value indicates how many out of 100,000 people had to go to the hospital because of Corona within a week.

For the first time, more than 100,000 people were infected with the corona virus in Germany within one day. According to the RKI, there were 112,323 new infections across the country. The nationwide incidence is now 584.4.
Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) said he expects the peak of the omicron wave of the virus in Germany in mid-February.
