Corona in the USA: New York transports the bodies away

Corona pandemic hits USA with full force

The spread of the coronavirus is accelerating massively in the USA. New York has become the hotspot of the pandemic: The number of infected people in the “Big Apple” is skyrocketing, the clinics are completely overloaded. A video showing the removal of bodies in white sacks is now shocking the country. We show the terrifying recordings and our US correspondent’s assessment of the current situation in our video.

Doctors and nurses are reaching their limits

In order to quickly relieve the hospitals, a hospital ship has been in the port of New York since Monday. The 272 meter long “USNS Comfort” has a thousand beds and twelve operating theaters. No corona infected people are treated there. For this, other patients can be transferred to the ship in order to free up more capacity for Covid-19 patients at the New York hospitals.

Temporary hospital: Central Park and US Open grounds are being repurposed

In addition to the clinics, people infected with corona are now also to be treated in temporary tents in Central Park. In addition, part of the US Open site in the New York borough of Queens is being converted into a hospital in view of the dramatically worsening situation. In the future, 350 beds in a training hall will primarily treat COVID-19 patients, with the US Army helping with the renovation. These are desperate means in the fight against the coronavirus – but for some Americans they are just a drop in the ocean.
