The governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, is now going one step further: on Twitter he announced that all citizens must now wear masks or other face coverings in public. This applies to all situations in which social distancing is not possible, wrote Cuomo.
In his daily press conference, Cuomo also had positive news: In the US state of New York, which is particularly hard hit by the corona pandemic, the hospitals have not been overwhelmed, contrary to what had previously been feared. “The health system has stabilized,” Cuomo said on Wednesday.

“The fear that the health system would be overwhelmed has not materialized.” This is mainly due to the huge efforts of everyone involved. The hospitals, for example, would have created more than 50 percent additional capacity for patients within just one month.
The total number of patients infected with the novel coronavirus who are in hospital has fallen again in the state of 19 million people and is now at 18,335, Cuomo said. However, around 2,250 people were added between Tuesday and Wednesday. 752 people died during this period. In total, there are now more than 11,000.
