Corona in the nursing home: five deaths – despite vaccination? | NDR.de – Nachrichten – Lower Saxony

Status: 02/12/2021 6:43 p.m.

In a retirement home in Emstek (Cloppenburg district), five residents have died with or from Corona in the past few days – although they have apparently already been vaccinated twice.

“We can’t explain it to ourselves,” said the managing director of the NDR 1 Lower Saxony facility. Neither how the virus got into the house nor why the vaccination did not work can be understood so far.

Rehearsals in the coming week

The district of Cloppenburg confirms the deaths, but has apparently not tried to get to the bottom of the cause. However, samples from 13 residents and employees of the home who are also infected are to be examined for virus mutations in the coming week. Those affected have also already been vaccinated – and according to NDR information there are at least some severe courses among them.

Is vaccination not yet sufficient?

Until the test results are available, one can only speculate: Was the vaccination not sufficient despite the vaccinations? Or did the five people die because of their age or illness? The managing director denies that the hygiene measures would have been relaxed after the vaccinations were completed.
